MORNING WORLD…..Graft at the Park

MORNING WORLD…..After a morning sorting out tackle boxes, bait boxes and generally getting the gear cleaned and organised as we had no customers it was time for a little R&R.
Yours truly fished my preferred method, the waggler, using pellet as the hook bait and feeding little and often. The loose feeding should be done to a rhythm to keep the fish in your swim and compete for the feed but this was tricky as the action was non stop from the first cast. I started fishing at a little after 2pm and finished at around 6pm with over 40 fish. In truth I was hoping to get the Siamese Carp back on the feed but the other species were not having any of that as they took the baits on the drop on many casts and if the bait did manage to get through them to the bottom it was only a matter of a couple of minutes before a bite. Not all so-called “monsters”, the smallest being Giant Gourami at around 2 kg, loads of Pacu from 3 – 8 kg, Striped Catfish up to around 15kg, Amazon Red Tails up to 20 kg, Asian red Tails to around 10 kg and lots of Walking Catfish up to 8 kg. Great sport on lighter tackle.

Our pal Mark Laurence has done a great job keeping the ex-pats of Rawai and the surrounding area, fed, watered and entertained at Islander. He’s put a lot of effort into adapting the present situation and made the most of his day off by joining me at the lake in the afternoon. Mark took a different approach targeting the predators and he too had non stop action with around 20 fish in under 4 hours. Lots of Red Tails from 3 different strains and some very good sized Pacu that have grown like crazy since we introduced them from the stock ponds. A great afternoons sport in the best company. It’s fishing its nuts off at the moment so why not join us for some “FUNFISHIN!”….?????????????

MORNING WORLD….. Englishman in Chalong Fishing Park

English angler Alex lives in Songkhla in southern Thailand and came to Phuket with his family for a mini-break. Having contacted us first Alex booked a days fishing and had said that he would like to catch a Chao Phraya Catfish as this species had eluded him to date. His wish was granted as part of a very busy days fishing with several other species including Amazon Red Tail, Tiger Red Tail and Asian Red Tail Catfish, Pacu, Striped Catfish and Walking Catfish with close to 40 fish for the day and a good few lost fish and the haul would have been bigger still if the Siamese Carp and the Mekong Cats were playing ball. His Son Hayden joined him for the last few minutes and he helped Dad land a couple more right at the end of the day.

With very few customers at the moment catch rates like this are commonplace and with our discounted rates there is no better time to “bag up” and enjoy a day of “FUNFISHIN!”…..?????????????

Dawn Over the Lake

Chalong Fishing Park – Dawn Over the Lake

Chalong Fishing Park Dawn Over the Lake

MORNING WORLD….. Chalong Fishing Park Dawn Over the Lake

Dawn and the sun rising over the lake, the best time of the day for me, birds singing and lots of activity on the water…beautiful !
The main lake is now full to the brim and the water hyacinths have re-established themselves after they were all devoured a few weeks ago which is possibly due to the lack of bait going into the water.

Last week one customer had around 50 fish in 5 hours, not all so-called monsters but some good fish in the mix and 10 fish an hour would be hard to beat anywhere. The Mekong have been on the missing list which has been the same during the rainy season since we first opened nearly 4 years ago. We never know when they will turn back on but when they do it can be mad and terrific sport. The Siamese carp have also been thin on the ground but they too are sure to start to feed again and high catch rates will be the order of the day. I also think that the more experienced anglers would be able to entice these species back on the feed and when I have the opportunity that is what I intend to do, there are worse challenges!

Less and less customers every week, tough times for many and things set to get worse before they improve but we are digging in and with the place to yourself, discounted rates and a pristine lake there is no better time to come to enjoy some “FUNFISHIN!”…….?????????????

MORNING WORLD….. Chalong Fishing Park Full of Water

What a difference a proper rainy season makes. Main lake full to the brim and the second lake over a third full with another 3-4 months of monsoon to come….we hope. Lots of hard work damming the stream and fitting pumps and pipe runs is paying off nicely and thanks to all that have been involved. All being well we will be able to stock the new lake towards the end of the year and then break through to the existing lake at the start of the next rainy season creating a larger lake with more features and further improvements planned.

The water quality is constantly checked and the lake is fishing its nuts off at the moment….why not join us? Discounted rates and no crowds makes for “FUNFISHIN!”……????????????????
