It’s Mekong time once again with more of these brutes showing every day as we have more consistently sunny weather that they favour. Its been a long wait as these hard-fighting fish quite literally ‘turned off” during covid with very few customers and less feed being introduced to the water but the introduction of some new ones, better weather and no doubt some experimenting by our guide “Boy” has resulted in some arm aches.
The fishing is improving after a spell that has been a little patchy, still lots of fish coming out but some species are not as responsive which is normal with no two days being the same. We are constantly asked what the best time of the day is and the honest answer is that you never know with lots of factors playing their part, something that experienced anglers know only too well but not everybody gets it. Lately, some swims have fished better in the afternoon while others have produced through the day but what happens today is not necessarily what will happen tomorrow.
Most of the usual suspects are taking the baits with Siamese Carp, Pacu and Chao Phraya showing well, fewer Red Tails than usual but still a good few being caught and when they turn back on properly we expect to see loads of them again. Arapaima has been elusive over the last few days so we must be due one any time soon.
On Sunday we had a delivery of new residents courtesy of our friend Warren Turner of Nam Sai Farm. Approximately 400 kg of smaller fish which are sure to grow quickly, Some lovely little Albino Striped Catfish, some Barramundi, Rohu, Common Carp and Grass Carp that are already feeding with a few being caught yesterday on predator baits!
Still busy every day so please pre-book or at least contact us before coming. We plan where people will fish based on duration, group size, and kids or elderly and we try to do this in everyone’s best interest. Everyone will be on the sunny side of the lake at some point in the day and there is cover all around. Many times a customer who is here for the day will ask to fish where the shade is in the morning not realising that that will be the sunniest side in the afternoon, we’ve been doing this a long time now so please trust us, remember your hat and sunscreen and shades, relax and enjoy some……..”FUNFISHIN!”……….
