Mekong Catfish on the Hook
MORNING WORLD…..
Things have been very quiet here for the last few days which has given us the chance to get some of the never-ending jobs and maintenance out of the way but by mid-afternoon, a little R&R was called for and Jen asked the lads to catch a few Java Barb and Tilapia for her.
Using light tackle and very small hooks with just a pinch of ground bait on the hook the lads set about their work and were both into Pacu instantly. Jacks’ next cast just a little way out saw his float zoom off and then he was spooled and the line was broken with a crack…..lesson to be learned there me thinks! We could see the float so we set about trying to retrieve it along with whatever had taken the bait and before long we had it and the lads did a good job of tying it off to another rod. We soon realised that this was a decent fish, so yours truly took over and I soon recognised to feel of a Mekong Catfish, no easy task to get in on such light line so the fish had to be played as gently as possible. These fish are extremely hard fighting, and every time we gained some ground the fish thought otherwise and off she went again. This was repeated several times until after a long-fought battle we got her into the net.
We normally catch lots of these fish during the dry season and see very little of them the rest of the year but this year has been different and this is the first Mekong of any size that we have caught. Over recent days we have seen a lot more evidence of them rolling on the surface so hopefully, this is a sign that they are back on the feed again and if so anyone fishing can expect a real work out as they go like trains.
I had planned to do some light fishing myself as the sun started to set but after my little battle “feet up and a cold one” was my preferred choice! Jen never did get her Java Barb or Tilapia, maybe we’ll have another go later today but with stronger line please lads!
The catch rates here have been off the scale of late, our rates are slashed, there’s lots of space and the fridge is always stocked so if you fancy some action come and join us for some ……………”FUNFISHIN!”……….🐠🎣🐟🐠🎣🐟🐠🎣🐟😎

DEALS
We have had a couple of people ask us if we are currently doing any deals and so the poster below should answer that question as we are basically offering our fishing at half price in an effort to tempt ex pats and remaining stranded tourists on the Island. All the usual things are included in the price and with very little pressure on the lake, very good catch rates are to be expected. We have removed our short 3 hour session as it would just not be worth doing and the half day package is great value anyway.
Please note that we do not offer hourly rates and the packages that we are offering do not even come close to meeting our running costs so please do not ask for further reductions.
We were also offering a half days fishing with 8 cold ones included a couple of days a week for just 1,000 baht (do the math) but we had no takers so we will have a re think.
Virtually all businesses here are struggling with the majority not even open and many perhaps closed for good. We are very aware that this is the same world over and this is not a cry for help, just putting it out there for you and the fish photos were all caught in the last week so why not come and catch some for yourselves and enjoy some “FUNFISHIN!”…..??????????
